Classes We Offer
At Elevation Dance, we offer classes for children in ballet, tap, modern jazz and acrobatics. We also offer adult tap. Whether you want to dance just for fun or achieve examinations, a complete beginner or advanced level, we cater for all abilities! We follow the BTDA syllabus for all subjects, and offer students the opportunity to take exams and medal tests. All students also have the opportunity to perform in our show that takes place every two years, as well as an annual carnival.
Most of our children's classes take place throughout the day on Saturday. We run some children's classes on Tuesday afternoon, and run adult tap classes on Thursday evening.
Ballet
Ballet originated in the 15th century, and is now a foundation for other dance forms. Ballet places an emphasis on classical technique, discipline, strength and control. A skilled ballet dancer has the ability to make difficult movements look graceful and effortless!
Tap
Tap is a rhythmical dance form, requiring the dancer to also be a musician! This discipline focusses on developing an understanding of musical expression and beats, as well as co-ordination and style. Within our classes, we explore a range of styles of tap dancing. We generally recommend that very young children gain a basic foundation in ballet first before giving tap a go, but review this on an individualised basis.
Modern Jazz
Modern jazz is a popular dance form that encourages the development of personal style and self-expression. There is huge variety in the type of music and style of modern jazz forms. Our classes allow students to experience a range of these, taking inspiration from musical theatre, street, contemporary and jazz. Through our programme of study, dancers are supported in building technique, flexibility and strength.
Acrobatics
Acrobatics combines elements of gymnastics with classical dance technique. We offer two styles of acrobatics class: recreational acrobatics, focussing on stretching and fitness, and syllabus acrobatics, following the BTDA programme of study and developing gymnastic skills.
Introduction to Dance
Our Introduction to Dance class welcomes children aged 3-5. This class mainly focuses on ballet, but starts to introduce the children to other styles of dance, such as modern jazz and tap. We currently run our Introduction to Dance classes on Saturday mornings and Tuesday afternoons.
Stretch and Strength
For dancers of Grade 1 standard and above who take at least one class in another discipline. This dynamic class will support our dancers in building full body strength and flexibility, which is key to all disciplines of dance. Dancers can expect mini competitions and fun challenges during classes! Stretch and Strength takes place on a Tuesday afternoon.
Private Lessons
Private lessons can be used for dancers who want/ need any extra support ahead of exams, or for dancers who want an extra boost with their dancing to progress more quickly. We offer one off private lessons, or block bookings of private lessons.
Adult Tap
Have you fancied learning tap as an adult? We run a beginner's adult tap class on a Thursday evening. Don't worry if you don't have tap shoes yet, just come along and give it a go! We also run an adult tap class for more experienced dancers.
Looking for more adult classes? Adult ballet and tap classes of varying levels are currently being delivered by our partner school, the Jill Gregory School of Dancing. The Jill Gregory School of Dancing shares the same studio space as Elevation Dance. Visit their site here for more information.
